The Secret of the Balancing Parrot-- MAGIC!

In my last post, I showed an art project. Here are the details for the Balancing Parrots. The students were completely amazed by this art project. Even the most "cool" student was impressed.

Here's the secret.

What you'll need:

• copy of the bird on cardstock paper
• crayons or color pencils
• scissors
• 2 pennies for each bird

   

What to do:

1. Color the front of the bird.
2. Cut out very carefully especially around the beak.
3. Color the back.
4. Tape the pennies on the underside of the wings.
5. Slightly fold the bird down the center.

Balance it from the beak, on your finger or on the eraser end of a pencil. 

Make your own copy 

You can change the colors of your bird depending on the theme or book. I tried to adjust the beak to look more like a parrot, but it messed with the balance. I am sticking with this template.
